No benefits for renters in the 2023 Budget

The 2023 Budget has done nothing to ease the pressure on tenants as their property owners struggle with rising costs, forcing them to increase rents in order to stay financially viable.

The Monetary Policy Committee today voted to raise the Official Cash Rate (OCR) from 5.25% to 5.50%.

The Committee agreed the level of interest rates are constraining spending and inflation pressure. The OCR will need to remain at a restrictive level for the foreseeable future, to ensure that consumer price inflation returns to the 1% to 3% annual target range, while supporting maximum sustainable employment.

As the value of properties throughout the country are falling dramatically we have survey results that prove the structural damage being done to the rental marketplace.  The marketplace relies very heavily on private ownership of around 85% or rental homes.  Owning rental homes is a business with a range of expenses beyond the mortgage involved, so there needs to be some rewards as part of the risks of the investment involved.
