Report to the NZPIF Communications meeting 22 June 2008

Being the incoming president it is my pleasure to report on the association’s activities since last year.

AGM March 08

A small turnout but an enthusiastic response to the call for new blood on the executive and to retain experienced hands.13 former members were re-elected, two new appointments on the night and one more co-oped later to give and executive of 16 members.

 President

It has been a big task to step into the shoes of Estelle Davis who is now providing much support in the roll of Immediate Past President. As a foundation member of the association 22 years ago and after around 16 years on the executive I plan to carry on the good work of my four predecessors.

Membership

Member renewals are slowly coming in. Numbers are currently down on the end of last year. These numbers traditionally increase with renewals sometimes taking months!Membership is around the 200 mark currently, down from 300 plus at the peak of the last few years. We have our thinking caps on over this and feel at some is due to perceptions of the property market.

Finances

Subs remain at $150 GST inclusive and one sub covers individuals, families or business partners.HBPIA is in great shape having substantial funds on deposit. We are a GST registered organization.

Our great finances are under the control of Treasurer and local accountant Pene Johnstone whose office also supplies administration services to HBPIA.

Business Partnership

We have established a business partnership with PGG Wrightson Real Estate in Hawkes Bay.In return for payments and help in preparing and printing our local newsletter (The Hawke’s Bay Property Insider) PGG Wrightson have several pages of advertising in the newsletter and speaking rights at meetings. They are invited to contribute speakers on topics which their agents have expertise. This partnership came about through the efforts of Vice President Heather McLeod.

Meetings

Meetings have increased in frequency from quarterly to monthly in the last 3 years.Venues are spread between the twin cities using such venues as the Cosmopolitan Club and Sailing Club in Napier, Hastings RSA and Havelock North Community Centre. This helps to give members at least some “local” meetings.

Meetings to come include, mid-winter dinner and mystery speaker next week, Derek and Robyn Masters in July and Mortgagee Sales – Deal or No Deal in August.
A bus tour to Manawatu to hear Michael Yardney speak is planned for July. This in the capable hands of the other Vice President and tour coach driver Graham Duff.

Electronics

The laptop computer and sound system have been proving great worth in meetings and making life simpler for Helen Gelletly our secretary who has all under control.

Member Information

Newsletter Our local newsletter has been retained and currently is running to around a dozen pages with colour. The help from PGG Wrightson acknowledged in its production along with our tireless editor Wolfgang Himme.
