October '08 Issue

Where’s the best place to weather a property downturn?

The October issue looks at the top 10 rental safe havens around the country. In a bull market, investors often only focus on capital growth. But when the world is shaken by economic earthquakes, it pays to play it safe. We find out where the least volatile rents are.

Keeping it topical, we also have an Election 08 update and look at the main parties’ housing policy and how it may affect both investors, landlords and property managers.

This month our beginners’ series looks at tax issues. The taxman can in fact be an investor’s best friend. Find out what your liabilities are and how you can reduce the amount of tax you pay.

Our Day in the Life series checks out mortgage brokers, what they really do and why they should be an essential part of any property investor’s team.

Another feature in the October issue looks at what to do with bare land. At this stage in the property cycle, land becomes an extremely viable option for investors. But what’s an investor to do – build? Move an existing house? We ask the experts.

We also profile Gisborne property investor Catherine Coombes. She grew up with the belief that debt is good and has built up a formidable portfolio.
