Dear editor
I have just been watching the news on TV 1 and would like to share my disgust with your paper for the woman in Auckland who posed as a property manager and appears to have defrauded a number of people who were looking for accommodation.
I have always wondered, how easy it would be for people to run a scam like that.
It was quite irritating, that TV1 news only mentioned MREINZ members as "licensed" property managers.
While it is correct that MREINZ members must have a trust account, there is no licensing of property managers.
Our company has provided property management services in Hawkes Bay since 2006 and our first tenant is still with us. We are not MREINZ, but members of IPMA = Independent Property Managers Association, who are in turn a member of the New Zealand Property Investors Federation (NZPIF). Members of IPMA are vetted property managers and anyone can lodge a complaint with them, should they feel the behaviour of a member is outside the code of ethics of the NZPIF or lacking in any other way.
You will find that members of the Hawkes Bay Property Investors Association, the New Zealand Property Investors Federation or IPMA are all passsionate about standards of professional performance and it hurts deeply, that someone like the woman pictured in the news on TV1 today can sow distrust towards hard working people - like ourselves.
I would like to offer you any opportunity for an interview and more information on property management in Hawkes Bay or to arrange an interview with one of our long term tenants should you be interested in that.
kind regards
Wolfgang Himme
